Established in 1963, Ability Works Australia Ltd (AWA) is a not for profit Social Enterprise whose activities are based on the belief that employment is the best way for people living with a disability or experiencing social disadvantage to achieve a sense of purpose, pride and belonging.
People living with a disability and/or who experience social disadvantage face significant barriers to employment. AWA breaks down those barriers by offering training and employment alongside expert support that is tailored to the needs and requirements of the people we serve.
The role of an Honorary Non-Executive Director at Ability Works.
The Board, which currently meets six times per year is responsible for establishing AWA’s purpose, values and setting the strategic direction as the basis for further planning, e.g., annual, and longer- term planning. It establishes governance policies that provide the framework for the management of the organisation and is responsible for the employment and performance of the Chief Executive.
The Opportunity
As part of a commitment toward Board succession planning and renewal, we are looking to attract suitably qualified candidates for future directorships on the AWA Board. Candidates should be able to demonstrate relevant skills and experience in financial literacy, strategic thinking, and the ability to act in an informed and independent manner with the highest ethical standards and integrity. In at least one of those Board roles, we are looking for candidates with lived experience of disability and/or disadvantage, either directly or as a carer.
